How to use it on the court
- Pick doubles or singles, side-out or rally scoring, and the target score.
- Type the team names and who starts on the right. Names are optional but make the serve call clear.
- Choose who serves first and press Start match.
- After every rally, tap the team that won it. Undo fixes a mis-tap, even one that ended the game.
- Put the phone on the net post or in a pocket and use Full screen so the score is readable from the baseline.
On a laptop, the left and right arrow keys score for each team and Backspace undoes the last rally.
Why this one instead of a scoreboard app
Most pickleball score keeper apps make you press a different button for a point and for a side out, which is one decision too many with a paddle in your other hand. Here you only tap who won the rally, and the scoreboard works out whether that was a point, a second server, or a side out.
It also shows where each player should be standing. Losing track of who serves and from which side is the most common argument in rec doubles, and it is exactly what a written score cannot tell you.
The scoring rules it follows
Side-out scoring follows the USA Pickleball rules for doubles: only the serving team scores, each team has two servers per turn, the first turn of the game has only one, and games are to 11, win by 2. In singles the call has two numbers and the server stands on the right when their score is even.
Rally scoring gives a point on every rally, with one server per turn. When the receiving team wins a rally, it scores and takes the serve, and the player on the side that matches the new score (right for even, left for odd) serves next.

Questions people ask
How do you keep score in pickleball?
In traditional doubles, only the serving team can score. The score is called as three numbers: the serving team, the receiving team, then the server number (1 or 2). Each team gets two servers per turn, except the very first turn of the game, which is why every game starts at 0-0-2. Games go to 11 and you have to win by 2.
Why does a pickleball game start at 0-0-2?
To offset the advantage of serving first. The team that serves first only gets one server on its first turn, and calling it server 2 means the next fault hands the serve straight to the other team. After that first side out, both teams get two servers every turn.
What does a score like 4-2-1 mean?
The serving team has 4 points, the receiving team has 2, and the first of the two partners is serving. If that server loses the rally, the call becomes 4-2-2 and the partner serves. If the second server also loses it, the other team serves and calls 2-4-1.
How do you know which side to serve from?
Every time your team gets the serve back, the player standing on the right serves first. When the server wins a point, the two partners switch sides and the same player serves again from the other side. A quick check: the player who started the game on the right is on the right whenever their team score is even.
What is rally scoring in pickleball?
With rally scoring, every rally wins a point for somebody, whether they served or not. There is one server per turn and the score is called with two numbers. It is used in Major League Pickleball and USA Pickleball allows it as a provisional format, usually to 21, win by 2.
When do you switch sides in pickleball?
Teams switch ends after each game. In the deciding game of a best-of-three match, they also switch when the first team reaches half the target: 6 points in a game to 11, 8 in a game to 15, and 11 in a game to 21. This scoreboard reminds you at that moment.
