Why the same four jokes keep coming back
Pickleball grew faster than its vocabulary, and the words it borrowed are funny by accident. A seven-foot no-volley zone got called the kitchen. A soft shot got called a dink. Neither term is in the rulebook and both sound like a joke before anybody writes one.
That is why so much of the category is wordplay. Dink Responsibly, Dink Floyd, Just Dink It. The sport handed the writers a word that already sounds ridiculous, and the rest is arithmetic.
The second well is self-deprecation, which is the honest register of a sport most people picked up in middle age and are not good at. That is the one worth writing in, and it is the one we live in.
The test for whether a shirt gets worn twice
Would they wear it to get coffee afterwards.
A shirt that only works on a court gets worn on courts, which is two hours a week. A shirt that works at the hardware store on a Saturday gets worn constantly. Understatement passes that test and volume does not: a line somebody has to read twice beats one shouted across the chest in ninety point type.
The rest is fabric. Heavier cotton hangs better, survives washing and does not go transparent when it gets damp, which is the failure nobody mentions in a listing photo.
